Czech Republic : Via Foundation and Charta 77
TechSoup Česká Republika is operated in partnership with the Via Foundation and the Charta 77 Foundation and was launched with TechSoup Global in December 2010.
The Via Foundation assists people who have taken the initiative to create positive change in their communities.Since its establishment in 1997, the Via Foundation has supported nearly 2,650 charitable projects in a total amount of CZK 227 million, emerging as the largest private supporter of community development in the Czech Republic. We provide funding, training, consultations, coaching and networking opportunities to support nonprofit organizations who proactively take responsibility for addressing community needs. We work to ensure that what has been accomplished in one community is shared with others, so that more people may also set out on a similar path.
The Charta 77 Foundation was founded in 1978 in Stockholm and in 1990 reallocated its activities to Prague. Coming from a broad concept of defending human rights and supporting persecuted dissidents and samizdat culture, the foundation shifted its focus towards supporting a whole range of cultural and humanitarian activities. The Barriers Account is the flagship projects with forty thousand of regular donors helping to those who are in real need. For 14 years The Charta 77 Foundation operates program Computers against Barriers with the aim to reintegrate handicapped people as fast as possible through their education and re-training using information and communication technology.
