Prevent Human Trafficking Institute
How can technology tell your story?
Christina Arnold started Prevent Human Trafficking Institute (PHT) out of a life-long passion to help exploited children in Southeast Asia. Early on, PHT made the decision to focus on prevention rather than direct intervention work. With a limited budget and staff, how could they successfully communicate their work and develop the support they would need to not only continue their vital programs but grow them to meet burgeoning demand?
While attending a local conference, Christina met with Care2, one of TechSoup's partner organizations in the D.C. area. Care2 suggested PHT attend TechSoup's local NetSquared networking meetup. TechSoup's NetSquared Initiative helps nonprofits worldwide use new Internet-based tools and other social Web applications to extend their reach and impact. During the meetup, PHT gained access to the network of organizations that have requested donated software via TechSoup Stock. Other attendees put PHT in touch with people who developed a Web site that would adequately present the video blogs and provide ways for new supporters to engage with the organization through email, donations, and a new e-newsletter. As a result, they have a re-tooled, interactive Web site that they can manage internally.
Using TechSoup Stock, Christina requested GrantStation, a discounted subscription service that quickly and easily links nonprofits to the most current sources of grant funding. To date, PHT has applied for several grants using GrantStation and has requested seven additional products offered via TechSoup Stock.
Christina estimates that PHT has received $64,000 in donated services as a result of taking advantage of the TechSoup partner network and suite of initiatives.
"We owe our success to the people we met through TechSoup and NetSquared."
